Artwork | A Painted Gift

I wanted to make something special to my boyfriend but after knowing each other for going on 13 years, it's hard to come up with a gift idea that hasn't been done.

After wrecking my brain, I figured it out! During our senior year, Justin (my boyfriend) took an art class where he learned how to do everything from perspective drawings to glass etching! One day, he came home with this for me.

A simple drawing with just graphite and a green color pencil, he made this with us in mind. I searched high and low for this in my memory box and when I finally found it- I remembered how much this meant when he gave it to me.

I wanted to give him something like that too. I wanted to give him something that not only showed how much I cared, but in some way showed him how I remembered and loved a gift he had once given to me. So I based a painting off of his original artwork and came up with this.

Outlining this out first in pencil, I kept the focal point the same and opted for a high contrast for the surroundings. Instead of straight lines and hard edges, I decided to go curves and organic shapes. Instead of cool colors of green and grey, I chose warm colors ranging between blossom pinks to deep purples.

The end result was more than I could hope for. I only hope he loves it as much as I loved the treasure he gave me nearly 10 years ago.
